So what are we all about here at Dorset Review and @dorsetreview


Dorset Review is an idea that I've had for a little while, being passionate about my County and my home town of Shaston.


Having been involved with the internet for many years now, and with various projects/websites in operation there is no faster way of getting your message across then social networking.


In particular Twitter, being fast and instant, but with that you require a steady and easy to control base which is where the blog comes in. Combining the two together provides a powerful and easy to use format whereby we can promote all things Dorset.


But, I hear you ask, what's in it for you? And what's in it for us?


OK, so lets take the what's in it for you. You are gaining exposure that you wouldn't of got otherwise. The potential for the tweets, both ours and yours to travel around not only the local area but the world is amazing. More exposure no matter how it comes on the web is simply great advertising.


A permanent presence on the blog is also critical, not only that but the way that search engine's work is through their own technical search and seek spiders which continually trawl the web for new content. The more new content placed on a website the more it is seen.


With the amount of promotion and new posts that the blog has on a daily basis, this is simply what the search spiders love! So if you haven't updated or changed your website for a while, maybe its due a review?


So, what's in it for me? Well, apart from supporting all who reside within this fabulous County of ours I make money, not alot, but an amount from all the adds that are placed by Google by the right of each post. However, I only make money if these adverts are clicked on! So please feel free!!

Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts started life as a big ambition to inject culture into the Poole community. 32 years later our big ambitions are still going strong. And we’re just getting started.

Opened in 1978 as Poole Arts Centre, we were born as a response to a lack of cultural facilities in the South East Dorset.  Conceived, designed and delivered by an ambitious local authority keen to invest in cultural provision for its community the Centre was unrivalled in the region for the opportunities it presented to experience such breadth and such quality all under one roof.

Poole Arts Trust was set up as a company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity with a board of voluntary directors to operate and manage the venue. Fortescue is a needle felted Dodo made from Merino and Shetland wool. He's weighted to make his odd shape stand up properly. He's an inquisitive fellow probably wondering where all the other Dodos are...! Fortescue is made to order and will take approximately 3-4 weeks to make (a bit longer than my smaller pieces). NB. The pictures are not of the actual Dodo you will receive but he will be very similar. Due to the nature of needle felting each piece is unique. Fortescue stands approximately 25cm tall and about 20cm long. He will be carefully packaged for safe travel to anywhere in the world.

I will send you a message when he is finished so you can know when to expect him.

All of my animals and creatures are named after people and places that mean something to me. Fortescue is the name of a street I lived on whilst at University and reminds me of quirky and fun times, a lot like this particular Dodo!

Well, hell fire! We've only gone and won the best baker gong at the Taste of Dorset Awards! Needless to say, we're a wee bit chuffed. We just want to say a really, really big thank you to everyone that voted for us. We also want to thank the judges, John Hole of GWR Hole & Sons, and Chris Tory of the Dorset Game Larder for choosing little old us, as well as providing delicious sausages for the awards dinner. Also, Jennie Duley for making us the most stunning award plate, and Blackmore Vale Magazine for all their support.


Homemade by Lizzie & Bekki is a very small, cottage industry style affair that pretty much does what it says on the tin. Based in Upwey, we are Lizzie & Bekki (also known as the 'Baking Birds') and we create speciality home baked and hand made goods, making the most of the wealth of fantastic produce available to us here in Dorset.

We sell directly through the Dorset Farmers Markets, and we and our rather colourful and sometime ramshackle stall can be found once a month at Bridport, Broadstone, Dorchester South Street, Sherborne, Shaftesbury, Poundbury and twice a month in Wareham. We can also be found once a month in Weymouth with Mrs Pooks Best in Dorset markets. Each month we change our Farmers' Market ‘menu’ to reflect the season as far as possible, and give you and ourselves some variety. There is always a wild selection of cakes, breads and savoury and sweet scones. 

As well as hawking our wares at the farmers markets we also supply a number of cafes, restaurants & pubs with cakes, jams, chutneys, bread and scones and flapjack to River Cottage for their festival attendance. We are really pleased to be the main cake supplier to Gould's Dorset Kitchen in Dorchester & we're now supplying cake to Monkey World. Plus, you can also find us ‘in the kitchen at parties’ where we will do the homemade so you can party without the hassle-and if you would like a cake for an ‘occasion’ we can do that too!
